Albert Irvin

Painter, printmaker, and teacher, born in London.

Albert Irvin studied at the Northampton School of Art, 1940-41, and after five years in the Royal Air Force he studied at Goldsmiths’ College School of Art.

In 1990 a retrospective of his paintings, 1960-89, was shown at the Serpentine Gallery.

The Arts Council and other important public collections hold his work, which is abstract, brightly coloured and shows a joy in the manipulation of paint.

He was elected RA in 1998.
